SRSA tries to make soccer accessible to all kids in the community. SRSA tries to give kids from families in financial need the same chance to participate as their neighbors, their classmates and their friends in the soccer game. SRSA gives a chance to kids to try a soccer or to continue with a favorite sport. No kid should be left out of the game because of the financial situation of the family. The Fun Drill is a program where kids learn the basic soccer skills from controlling the ball, dribbling, kicking and passing. There are many exercises in this program combined with fun warm up, fun heading, small sided soccer games, and many others. During this program, kids acquire also basic knowledge of the soccer regulation. The duration of the program is 10 days in the last week of June. Because of the high demand in this program, SRSA usually recruits and pays some professionals for the program. This program accepts kids from 4 to 14 years old. Because of our limited resources (human and financial) registrations are limited to 90 kids for this program. Our target for the coming year is to double the number of kids participating to the Fun Drill. SRSA started running this program in June 2015.

This is the most popular program. When comes spring many kids want to be outdoor. This spring outdoor is organized in a community league. SRSA has been running this program since 2012. For this program, kids are divided into 5 groups depending on their age: the under 4 (U4), the under 6 (U6), the under 8 (U8), the under 10 (U10) and the under 12 (U12). In each group age, the children are put on a team. Each team will have approximately 10 practices and will play at least 15 games for the program. All games and practice take place at the Skyview Ranch soccer fields. Practice focuses on individual and collective technical development and is designed and implemented by a high profile soccer coach. Though the cost is very minimal, paying the requested fee is still a challenge to many of the kids. This program is the most expensive to the organization because of the need in human resources (professional coaches, refrees and other technical staff) and financial resources. This program has high demand in field and player equipment (team uniform, ball, goals, etc). The challenge for this program is to have many committed volunteers as possible to cover the financial difficulties.

This program was developed to keep our kids active during winter. The indoor soccer starts in September and finishes in March of the next year. The program is similar to the spring outdoor program where kids are put in groups and divided into teams. Each team has one practice and plays one game every week. Participation to this program has been limited because of the high cost resulting from the cost of facility rental. SRSA usually rents school gyms for this program. This program is divided into 2 periods: Fall and winter. Fall program runs from September to December while the winter program runs from January to March. Games and practice take place at the Apostle of Jesus School in Skyview Ranch. The biggest challenge for this program is to get gym availability for the kids to play every time a practice session or game is scheduled and to get more professional coaches to handle the program. In 2017 we have 40 kids registered in this program. Registration was limited because of gym availability. We are looking forward to securing more space in the gym of the school. The building of an elementary school in Skyview Ranch and planned by the Alberta Government will give us a chance for an additional gym for the program.

This is a special program for kids from 4 year old and upward. It is a program of skills development for the U8 and upward. This is a program of more fun with the ball to the U6 players. This program is one of the most popular program since its creation.

Lessons take place every Monday and Wednesday from the first week of July to the second week of August. This is a total 6 weeks soccer program. Kid are put in small manageable groups with a head coach.

Practices are 1 hour with 30 minutes of small game for the U8 and upward. For U4 and U6 practice will be just 1 hour including a game of 30 minutes.

Below is a comprehensive description of the summer camp activities:

Week 1: Ball Control / First Touch

Emphasis will be placed on being able to control and trap the ball using both feet, chest, thigh, head and other parts of the body.

Week 2: Ball Skills
 (Fast Feet)

This application is to learn specific moves which enable you to maneuver better with the ball. The coaches will teach the fire dance, inside roll, outside roll, pull turn and other advanced maneuvers. When a student learns the fast feet skills, he/she is better adept at handling and controlling the ball. This builds confidence and self-esteem in playing the game of soccer.

Week 3: Ball Juggling

This activity helps the student gain coordination and develops ball control. Many of our students are proud of their progress by increasing the number of times that they can juggle. We will encourage students to use both feet, thighs and head.

Week 4: Ball Passing & Shooting

This activity will be taught using the inside and outside of both feet, one and two touch passing, and short & long passes. The technical and tactical skills will focus on passing to a player, passing in front of a player and moving into space to receive a pass. Shooting – the focus is to learn and develop the fundamentals of kicking such as a proper stance, planting of the foot, and follow through. Students will learn the art of shooting with both feet and being able to shoot accurately using the laces, inside and outside of both feet.

Week 5: Dribbling & Heading

This week activity will concentrate on being able to dribble using the inside and outside of both feet, in very tight situations, on long runs with the ball close to your feet, and while cutting in every direction possible.
Heading – students will learn to use the head properly and effectively to score goals, pass to teammates, or just to control the ball.

Week 6: Special Week with Invited Coach

An invited coach will be present at this last week of the camp to share his know-how and experience with the campers. His drills will mostly focus on skill development, team building, and small-sided games. Emphasis is also placed on enjoyment and appreciation of the game of soccer.

Week 7: Special Week with Invited Coach

The camp activities will culminate with a World Cup on the final day.

At the end of each lesson coaches explain and instruct kid and parents on soccer regulations and the game.

At the beginning of the camp every registered kid will receive a team jersey and a ball. At the end of the camp all registered kid will receive a participation medal. If a kid has attended at least 80% of the lessons he or she will receive a certificate.

The biggest challenge in this program is again the finances and human resources. In term of infrastructure we have the 2 biggest soccer fields in Skyview Ranch booked for the program.

This is a newly program created 2 years ago that run from October to March and coupled with the indoor soccer program. Many families are struggling with balancing homework and after school sport program. As kids get older, their homework increases, while the same time they want to play their favorite sport which is soccer. There is a real value in allowing children to apply themselves to athletics and other extra curricular activities. In addition to the many health benefits of being active, there is also much to be learned on a soccer field that supplements what happens in the classroom. For instance, young soccer players can get a crash course in the importance of working as a team, training to master new skills, developing effective strategies, and setting goals. Better yet, all of these lessons can actually help improve kids’ grades and study habits. This program is designed for Junior High and High school students. Every day before they play soccer some tutors and certified instructors are present to help them do their homework before the game.

SRSA offers help in Science, Social Science, Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Publishing, Performing Poetry and many other subjects in both French and English. Soccer instructions will be given also in both French and English. Beside homework, players will learn a new soccer skill every single month from October to March!

This will include SPEED, AGILITY, QUICKNESS and BALANCE activities which not only help with soccer but are applicable to all sports. In addition to developing soccer skills, the curriculum emphasizes teamwork, confidence building, leadership, and commitment. Boys and girls scrimmage against each other and participate in regular soccer matches.

Participants learn all of the key skills required to be successful in the game of soccer while completing their homework.

This program offers: a fun, educational and engaging training environment under the direction of professionally certified and energetic staff. We have limited enrollment number of participants for maximum attention. This is a fun and dynamic curriculum that promises to challenge all skill levels.
